St George Town Team says fund could help area's renaissance
THE team set up to regenerate St George has welcomed a £25 million fund it hopes could help its renaissance.
Church Road Town Team is hoping the Growing for Growth grants up for grabs could attract small businesses to the area and build on the team's recent funding to change the look and feel of the street.
The Bristol Post has joined forces with the West of England Local Enterprise Partnership (LEP) to launch the investment project aimed at kick-starting the economy in the greater Bristol area back into life.
Firms can apply for funding of up to £1 million and the process is expected to take around two to three months to complete for those taking part.
Simon Webb, chairman of the Church Road Town Team, said recent changes were triggering a "renaissance" on the road running through Redfield and St George and he hopes funding could attract more small businesses too.

He said: "The new Southville Deli is great news for our high street and a welcome addition and we have just received funding for planting trees and planters along the high street that will improve the appearance and feel of the area for generations to come."
He said there was a feeling "wider economic growth" of the area was not far away and the LEP could provide a long-overdue boost.
He said: "There's plenty of scope for investors in the empty units on the street to be filled by the people who have got sound business ideas.
"It's a very positive thing and Church Road should be able to benefit from it in terms of businesses looking for places to set up....
