We're looking for 400 local firms, big or small, to apply for a share of £25 million
Paul Wilson
Paul Wilson, the chief executive of the LEP, is leading the initiative and has already been in contact with firms interested in bidding for cash from the fund.
He said: “When I first took on the job of leading the LEP I never imagined I would be in the position to give away £25 million to small and medium sized enterprises in the West of England area. This really is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity, not just for the businesses involved but also for the LEP and for the people involved in the Going for Growth campaign.”

He added: “No one is denying that we have just been through one of the worst recessions in recent history but the signs are there of the start of the recovery. It is the small and medium sized enterprises who are the key to the recovery, until the business community gets back on its feet then the economy will not start to grow. There is an
issue surrounding the lack of financial banking but hopefully we can go some way towards addressing that issue with our campaign. We want to get the economy moving and this is one way we can make a real difference and help people grow their business.”

Businesses looking for funding will have to prove they will create or protect jobs with the help of the grants which will be worth anywhere between £10,000 and £1 million.

Successful applicants will have to prove that they will match the money they receive from their own resources or with funding from the banks and other sources.
